Fishing season 2017 has been exceptional due to cold and windy weathers in Finland. As the spring came late, the fishing of bream started in late June whereas in normal years the season starts already in mid-May at the latest. Also the Finnish coastal waters remained cold almost throughout the whole summer affecting also the behavior of the fish stocks. Despite the bad luck with the weather, a total catch of 150 000 kg bream and roach was caught, which equals to 1,2 tons of phosphorus removed from the Baltic Sea. Some of the fishermen still continue fishing during the autumn as the demand for bream is growing in Finland.
